Is Pest Control Safe for Kids and Pets?

"Is it safe for my kids and pets?" is the question we hear more than any other, and it's the right one to ask. The short answer is that professional pest control, done carefully and with a few simple precautions, is designed to be used around families every day. Here's what that looks like and what you can do to make service day easy.

What a careful pest control company does

  • Uses targeted treatments, not blanket spraying. Most of the work happens around the outside of your home, at the entry points, cracks and harborage areas where pests live, instead of across open living spaces.

  • Uses baits where they make sense. Gel baits placed in cracks and crevices, and rodent bait in locked, tamper-resistant stations, keep products out of reach of curious hands and paws.

  • Follows the label. Every product registered for use in California comes with directions for how and where it can be applied. Licensed technicians are trained to follow them.

  • Is licensed and accountable. In California, structural pest control companies are licensed and regulated by the Structural Pest Control Board. Skyline holds SPCB License #4257.

  • Tells you what's being used. California law requires pest control companies to give you a pesticide disclosure that lists the products and the safety information.

Questions to ask any provider

  • What products will you use, and where?

  • Will you be treating inside, outside or both?

  • How long should my family and pets stay off treated areas?

  • Do you offer lower-impact or eco-friendly options?

  • Will the same technician come every time?

Simple steps for service day

  • Tell your technician about kids, pets and anyone sensitive in the home, including pregnancy, infants or health conditions, so they can adjust the treatment plan.

  • Pick up toys, pet bowls and pet beds from areas being treated.

  • Keep kids and pets away from treated areas until they're dry, and follow the re-entry time your technician gives you.

  • Cover fish tanks and turn off aquarium pumps if interior work is being done.

  • Follow your prep sheet for specialty treatments like bed bugs or fleas. Those services have extra steps.

The Skyline approach

Every Skyline plan comes with the same licensed technician on every visit. They get to know your property, your pets and your gate code. That consistency means they know where the kids play, which areas to avoid and what's changed since last time. Eco-friendly treatment options are available on every plan, and your technician will walk you through what's being used before they start.
